Sister City - Gulcz, Poland
It started in 1990 through research of church records of Gulcz, Poland. It became evident that many local residents' ancestors immigrated from Gulcz to Stevens Point, Wisconsin in the 1860's.
Thus after 125 years, it was important to re-establish ties with the village of Gulcz, Poland. Family contacts were made and a visit occurred on May 8, 1993. At this time Gulcz, Poland became the first Polish "Sister-City" of Stevens Point, Wisconsin. Indeed, this was a great day for this rural village. Much excitement was generated from children to adults. To date, there have been exchanges of letters, photographs, videos, children's art and even Skype conversations. Our contributions have helped with community improvements and humanitarian assistance.
All this will lead to a workable understanding of life in Gulcz, Poland as well as here in Stevens Point, Wisconsin!
